The Pastor as Storyteller
Speaker: Joe Boyd
There is nothing more true or powerful than a story. Our people long to live within a meta-narrative (our big God story) and a micro-narrative (our little church’s story). Within the context of a narrative lifestyle and a narrative theology, truth becomes an authentic, daily lifestyle within the Kingdom of God.
As pastors, we tell stories. The stories of God and Jesus, of the saints, of our church, our lives and our struggles. We tell these stories not just as formal teachers/preachers, but also as leaders, servants and overseers. We never stop telling our story because we never stop living our story.
We’ll look at the issues of preaching as storytelling, narrative-centered leadership and various creative storytelling methods – from ancient midrashic traditions to modern film and video production.
